MS Dhoni lashed out at the reckless shot selection of his batting colleagues and felt the ill-timed injury to paceman Ashish Nehra also dented their chances in the tri-nation final against Sri Lanka here on Wednesday. Put into bat, the Indian batsmen — barring Suresh Raina (106) and Ravindra Jadeja (38) and Virender Sehwag (42) — let the side down with their questionable shot selection and Dhoni did not even try to hide his anger.
“I don’t think the shot selection of our batsmen was great. Thanks to Suresh and Ravindra, we made it a contest but the batsmen should have been more careful,” a disgruntled Dhoni said after the match. “You just cannot go out and go with the momentum of the series. We played this tournament on pitches where scoring wasn’t an issue. But today there was quite bounce in it and we should have been careful which we were not,” added the Indian skipper. His opposite number Kumar Sangakkara, adjudged Man of the Series, said he could not make any complaint. “I always says that we have a number of match-winners in Dilshan, Tharanga and Mahela. We got a good start today and then Mahela finished it brilliantly. Both the opening bowlers (Nuwan Kulasekhara and Chanaka Welegedara) gave us early wickets and even though we could have been tighter in the middle overs, it was a great show in the end,” Sangakkara said. “It was great how the youngsters came to the party and gelled with the seniors. My Comment : India were undone by a combination of poor shot selection and Sri Lanka’s disciplined pace bowling, losing wickets at regular intervals. If we see the first five wicket of indian innings, how it fallen, then anybody will say that the era comes again that "Tu chal main aaya." and era of spoon making has been started again. Kohli, Yuvraj,Dhoni,Sehwag had been given a catch wicket behind. Dhoni did not even try to hide his anger and he said above that poor shot selection of his batsman was not good what he will say about himself. Dhoni's selection of eleven was not good because we have seen the matches in recent times : Yuvraj singh is always looks tired. Sehwag is always in hurry.Zaheer is also not doing well. Harbhajan singh is not the person who can lead the spin department at all. We have seen amit mishra has been taken three wickets in last league match against bangladesh and also karthik played good knock in couples of game he played in this tri-series. Tyagi has been also bowled very well in last game but he didn't make in eleven for the spot of Sreshanth. So I think Dhoni should open his eyes and make the eleven quite intellegently not to believe on super-stitious, only believe on good performance if he wants to make his team become a no 1 in one-dayer or make the countable performance in coming world cup. But if we can think that positive comes out from this tri-series was Kohli,R Jadeja,Raina showed himself again that big guns will not always comes in front to make you out of disaster. And one more thing they have proved that they are really a chuck-er when count it big.
